| This is a great option for a do-it-yourself security system with a built in alarm to deter burglars. No need for ongoing contract as the system call automatically calls your cell phone or neighbour if triggered. Easy to install, but would highly recommend buying a signal repeater to increase reliability. The system seems to take some time to learn where the sensors are when the main unit is moved. |

| Skylink ML-100 (Dialling Capability)With a little extra help from the factory we had the system up and running in no time. We love it, because we don't have to have a third party involved for this system to work. We did have one bad door sensor that we had to do a little extra work on to get replaced. Other than that it works great. The only down side is that it doesn't immediately set off an alarm when there's an intruder unless that setting is always on alarm. It dials telephone numbers when the system is armed and that makes the system better so you can be notified when you are away for extended periods. |

I bought this for a relative, and installed it in their house. We're returning it, and not even thinking of getting a replacement. Here's why:
1. It doesn't work. Though the base station does seem to make some nice gestures at seeming to work, and it does call out to your phone numbers assigned when you test it, the included sensors can't register on the base station beyond about 5-6 feet.
2. It's poorly documented. Just in the very first minute of installation, I somehow triggered the alarm, and didn't realize that there is a switch/button under the battery door of the main unit that basically sets off "System Panic" once you remove the battery door. You have to have the witherwithal to get the cover on neatly, make sure it's snug and tight, then turn the unit over and enter the default disarm codes, all while trying not to soil your pants from the awfully loud noise that this alarm sets off.
3. The door/window sensors aren't very forgiving at all for molding around the doors and/or windows. It's difficult to mount the sensors and corresponding magnets in a way they'll be flush enough for the sake of the sensor.
4. The motion detector is not so great, and we found it to barely trigger the base unit even 2 feet away. This, despite replacing the battery to see if it was just an old/pre-supplied battery issue.
This would have been laughable and funny, if it weren't so negligent for the manufacturer. The only thing going for it is the ability to dial out to pre-assigned phone numbers and play a pre-recorded "System Panic" message over and over after you say "hello" -- without a monthly fee.
But try not to think about the one potential time you actually need the system to work -- say, a burglar or other criminal breaking into your house -- and the system/alarm failing entirely. It's almost unforgiveable on the part of the manufacturer that these aren't QA tested to be absolutely working.
I bought the system so my relative wouldn't get ripped off by a burglar. Instead, I feel like we all got ripped off. |
Skylink ML-100 AAA+ -- Buyer Beware

I just want to warn all potential customers that this product has not been reliable. My unit broke down twice in a period of 8 months. I sent it once for repairs and I had to wait 4 weeks to get it back. Two after I setup the unit the same problem all over again. Here is what happens: you can program all your sensors no problem but somehow the unit can no longer receive or loses it's ability to hear the sensors -- the sensors will not trigger the alarm. The wireless communication fails.
Part of my regret is that I purchased many extra sensors that ended up costing me hundreds of dollars. I intend to smash the unit with a hammer and send Skylink the pictures for their inspection! |
