This alarm is terrific if you're in an apartment. For a house I would spend the money to have the whole house wired, but for apartments, it does the trick. Put one on each window/door and forget about the $100's in gates and bars. I refuse to be the prisioner in my own abode with gates and bars on the windows... I live in NYC. This alarm is loud and the batteries can be tested without setting it off. If you have old wooden windows it may not line up properly but you have a half inch deviance to play with before it activates, but most of the windows in NYC are energy efficent aluminum double glass..so for $6.06 each they're a bargain. I highly recommend it for apartment living.

My children's room is not on the same floor of the house as me, so I like to know what my kids are dooing. A few years ago my (then) 5 year old was opening his window in his room and throwing his toys in the back yard for his friend to come and get. Ever since then I've kept alarms on the windows. I bought these alarms for my new house last year. And testing shows I can hear them with the tv on both in that room and the room I am in on another floor of the house. That's pretty good! While I mostly use these to hear if someone is trying to get in, it's nice to be able to keep track of my kids without actually having to see them. When I go to bed at night I check to be sure they haven't turned the switch to OFF -- and I spoke to the kids about this at length - and not once have they played with it. I think it's also exciting because they're old enough and we have actual safety drills where I let them climb out a window... They know safety - but this just helps me sleep a little better.

This works perfectly for my storm/screen door. After reading many reviews about the child-proofing items for a screen door, all fell short. I decided to opt for this alarm. It's LOUD. I can hear it no matter where I am in the house! I keep the screen door locked, but my son CAN unlock it, so the alarm is my back-up plan. It's great in the "chime" mode too.

I bought a set of these last week after my elderly neighbor was broken into. After an afternoon of research, I decided on these since they were not permanently installed (apartment living), small, and relatively inexpensive. I wanted something that would make enough noise that it would alert me that there was a problem, but did not require a phone line for service since I only use a cell phone. They were very easy to install by myself and took about 15 minutes from start to finish, including testing and reading the instructions. I would suggest these to anyone that wanted an inexpensive alarm system for an apartment.

This is definitely everything advertised.
It's small, easy to install, and LOUD!
However, because it has a SWITCH, our local pool codes will not accept it.
Alarms required for final inspection after a pool is built are very specific. This alarm is approved by the State of FL, but not accepted by Leon County! |
